ABSTRACT. The ethnic history of the Solons, the Barguts, and the Evenks in Central Asia continues to attract scholars. According to historical data, before the settlement of the Barguzinsky territory by the Verkholensky Buryats and Russian Cossacks (17th century), only Evenks lived in the valley. They were also the contact ethnic group with ancient inhabitants of Barguzin: the Solons and the Barguts. Folklore sources also mention the Solon-Barguts, the Barguts, and the Aba-Khorchins. The study of the traditional religious culture of the Evenk autochthonous groups in the Barguzin valley becomes relevant in the light of the study of interethnic relations of both the Solons and Evenks, the Barguts and Evenks, and the Evenki-Buryat ties up to the 17th century. In this article, the author analyzes the ethnic history of the above peoples in the Baikal region and beyond, from Barguzin to Hulun-Buir (northeast China). Historical information is scant, but based on available archival materials and folklore sources, including the sources on shamanism among the Barguzin Buryats, the article analyzes ethnic processes and interactions of Tunguso-Manchu, Mongol-speaking groups from the 10th to 17th centuries. The research results will contribute to further understanding specific ethnic composition of the Barguzin valley populated by different ethnic groups in the context of studying the ethnic history of the Buryats, Evenks (Russia), the Solons, Barguts, and Khorchins (China, Mongolia).
