ABSTRACT. The article examines the experience of implementing new image projects in modern Abaza society. The formation in 1992 of the World Congress of the Abkhaz-Abaza people and the inclusion of the Abaza people in the list of small-numbered peoples largely prompted the current dynamic revival of the traditional culture of the Abazins. Since this period, active processes to revive national culture, traditions, and customs have started in society. Many of these traditions had been virtually forgotten, but now, thanks to society’s efforts, they are gradually being revived and even becoming national brands. This topic did not find proper coverage in the scholarly literature. Therefore, a significant part of the article is based on the materials of field studies conducted by the author in the Abaza district of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and data from Internet resources. This research is part of a scientific project implemented by Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (the Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The study examined several important “ethno-preservation” projects existing in Abaza society. In recent decades, the ethnic component has become an essential basis for constructing the region’s uniqueness and is the basis of image projects of the Abaza people. The experience of the Abaza people in preserving and reviving traditional culture is universal and can be applied in other regions of the Russian Federation.
