ABSTRACT. A large wave of migrants who arrived in Europe in 2015 and the following years from the disadvantaged regions of the Middle East and Africa. It was named the “migration crisis” in the media and socio-political discourse. However, most French researchers studying migration problems believe that it was not a “migration crisis” or a “refugee crisis”, but a crisis of European institutions that were unable to accept the large masses of refugees, a crisis of the Schengen zone and European solidarity, a crisis of EU migration policy and crisis of hospitality. The migration theme, including the assessment of the events of 2015, is largely politicized, and scientific approaches to addressing this issue depend on the ideological position of researchers. Currently, most representatives of the scientific community in France share left-wing and left-liberal views, according to which the mass migration is considered a good and progressive phenomenon, a process conducive to the development of the country and the individual. It was in such optics that the crisis of 2015 was perceived by most French scientists.
