ABSTRACT. The article discusses the modern patterns of ethnic leadership and project activities of the indigenous peoples of the Taymyr Dolgano-Nenetsky Region. As the EthnoExpedition in Taymyr (April-May 2021) has observed, ethnicity often manifests itself in personal creative initiatives. The research included interviews, questionnaires, participant observation and cyber monitoring, which have revealed the connection between ethnicity and the reference persons. The Taymyr indigenous population’s modes of leadership involve all the basic sectors of life ― from international politics and social movements to managing economic activities and initiatives aimed at preservation and revival of traditional cultures. Positioning the interests of the indigenous population, ethnic elites attempt to control territories and resources, and participate in the development of economic and humanitarian strategies of the region. To a different extent, the attempts of the representatives of the indigenous people to mobilize their ethnic potential become mutually beneficial. The thematics of ethnic projects reveal the leading part of the appear to be are in direct relationship with the activism of their ethnic elites and ethnopolitical and ethnocultural projects they generate.
