ABSTRACT. Building on the anthropological paradigm, the authors of the article analyze the degree of integration of nut-bearing plants (walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, etc.) into the economic structure, alimentary sphere and traditional medicine of the Greek-speaking and Albanian-speaking population of the Ionian coast of Albania. To solve this problem, we use ethnological and linguistic materials collected in the region under study in 2009–2021. Our analysis of possible factors of the influence of ethnic and religious affiliation on the level of adaptation of innovations in the new conditions of economic, social and cultural development of Himara, as well as the effect of the global information space on all the spheres of human life, including food systems and health care, involves a comparison of complex data (anthropological, folklore, historical, and linguistic materials). As the analysis allows us to conclude, the alimentary sphere and traditional medicine are among the most conservative fields, as habits and preferences developed in one’s childhood change very slowly. On the other hand, even in a traditionalist society, in the new conditions of functioning of information connections, the “engine” of transformations is the global trend towards health and healthy lifestyle, as well as attitudes to the treatment and enhancement of fertility “by means provided by nature”, not those produced by the “harmful chemical” industry.
