ABSTRACT. The present analytical survey offers an experience of scientific-organizational and research work of the Centre for Comparative Religious Studies and Ethnosemiotics and the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies of Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov (previously known as Pomor State University), connected with developing the ideas and traditions of Russian anthropological religious studies, rooted in the works of the prominent Russian ethnographer L. Y. Shternberg. Within scientific programs and projects, the University organized complex fieldwork and desktop archaeological ethnographic research of sacral landscapes on Northern and Arctic territories, which resulted in tangible results connected with semiotic, phenomenological and comparative ethnological analysis of genesis, the structure and semantics of religious mythological cultural space of the peoples of North Russia. The results of the research undertaken at the Centre for Comparative Religious Studies and Ethnosemiotics and the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies of Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov are presented in doctoral and candidate theses, monographs and scientific papers. Pomor Readings on semiotics of culture play an important role in the genesis and further development of the network of regional research centres involved in religious studies, ethnic and cultural studies, and the humanitarian geography of the Northern Arctic territories in the Russian part of the Barents Region. Pomor Readings welcome prominent Russian and foreign ethnographers who study the peoples of Northern Eurasia.
